Arjun Sarja's thrilled to work with Mani Ratnam
Arjun Sarja is excited at the same time thrilled to work with Mani Ratnam. It is because he is teaming up with the maverick filmmaker for the first time. Well, the actor has confirmed the news that he has signed the forthcoming multilingual movie, which is reportedly titled Pookadai.
Speaking to a leading daily, Arjun Sarja said that he has been roped in to the film but denied that he is playing the role of a baddie in upcoming Tamil movie. The actor, who is not keen to reveal the details about his character, claimed that he is playing the central character.
Mani Ratnam's next movie will star veteran actor Karthik's son Gautham in the lead role. For the female lead roles, yesteryear actress Radha's daughter Tulasi and Parthiban's daughter Keerthana are reportedly being considered.
However, the filmmaker has finalised the crew for the forthcoming multilingual film. His favourite musician AR Rahman will be scoring the music, whereas, Rajeev Menon will be handling the camera.

Implement court order to display leaders' portraits, says HC
MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Friday directed the state government to produce sufficient materials to effect implementation of its order to display portraits of C Rajagopalachari, Thanthai Periyar, U Muthuramalinga Thevar and 2 others in the government offices.
In a contempt petition filed by B Stalin, an advocate, against the chief secretary, it was stated that the bench had in February directed the latter chief secretary to consider a representation made by him to display portraits of the said leaders and pass appropriate orders within four months. Since there was no action on this, the petitioner filed the contempt petition against the chief secretary for not implementing the order of the court.

Arjun Sarja seems to have grabbed the attention of maverick director Mani Ratnam with his performance in Mankatha. The multilingual actor, who was seen in a negative role in Ajith Kumar's 50th film, has been offered a villain role by the filmmaker for his next film, which is tentatively titled Pookadai.
Sources say that Arjun Sarja's character is different from his role in Mankatha. In the recently released Tamil film, the actor's true face was revealed in the end but in Pookadai, from the word go, he will be shown as the antagonist.

மனோரமாவின் உடல்நிலையில் முன்னேற்றம்...
அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ள மனோரமாவின் உடல்நிலையில் முன்னேற்றம் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
பாத்ரூமில் வழுக்கி விழுந்ததால் நடிகை மனோரமாவின் தலையில் அடிபட்டது. இதனால் தலையில் ரத்தக்கட்டி உருவாகி ரத்தக்கசிவு ஏற்பட்டது. இதைத்தொடர்ந்து சென்னையிலுள்ள தனியார் மருத்துவமனையில் அவருக்கு நேற்று அறுவை சிகிச்சை வெற்றிகரமாக நடந்தது. தற்போது அவசர சிகிச்சை பிரிவில் இருக்கும் அவரது உடல்நிலையில் முன்னேற்றம் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாக மருத்துவர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.
அவசர சிகிச்சை பிரிவில் இருந்து நாளை அல்லது நாளை மறுநாள் அவரை வெளியே கொண்டு வருவார்கள் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. அதுவரைக்கும் மனோரமாவை பார்க்க யாருககும் அனுமதி வழங்கப்படவில்லை.

கபிலன் வைரமுத்துவின் புதிய படைப்பு
பாவலர் வைரமுத்து அவர்களின் மகன் திரு. கபிலன் வைரமுத்து அவர்களுடயை இரண்டாவது புதினமான “உயிர்ச்சொல்” இப்போது பாடல் வடிவில் தன்னை அறிமுகம் செய்ய உள்ளது.

RAMANATHAPURAM: Attention to detail and proper security arrangement paved way for smooth conclusion of Muthuramalinga Thevar guru pooja at Pasumpon village near Kamuthi on Sunday.
The birth anniversary of freedom fighter U Muthuramalinga Thevar is celebrated every year with pomp and fervour at Pasumpon. But the task was much bigger this time around.
The September 11 police firing at the Five Point Road junction in Paramakudi has resulted in the death of six persons and there was fear of retaliation by some elements during the jayanthi.
Taking note of the situation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had convened a special meeting of the top police officials in Chennai in the run-up to the Thevar Jayanthi.
Arrangements were made for deployment of police personnel in large numbers in the district. Even several intelligence personnel were deployed in sensitive villages to monitor the situation.
All the efforts paid off when no untoward incidents — not even stone-pelting — were reported from any part of the district.

Veteran director Mani Ratnam still hasn't found a 'fresh face' for his next film, which will have Karthik's son Gautham in the lead.
Reportedly, Mani first approached Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan's second daughter Akshara to play the female lead in the film. However, things didn't work out as we hear Akshara's focus right now is on filmmaking. Mani's team then approached Radha's second daughter Tulasi (sister of Karthika of Ko fame). And now, the latest name being tossed around in Mani's camp is that of Parthepan's daughter, Keerthana!
Initially, Kollywood was abuzz with news that the audience could see a repeat of Alaigal Oyvathillai as Radha's daughter Tulasi and Karthik's son Gautham would pair up. "But, the plan didn't materialize as Radha wanted her first daughter Karthika's career to skyrocket first," says a source, "So, Mani's team started searching for another face, and one of the names that came up during the discussion was that of Keerthana."
The source adds that they didn't approach Keerthana, though she has immense potential, because she's already a known face in the industry. "Mani wants a girl who's fairly new to the industry. She (Keerthana) is already familiar with Tamil audiences since her debut in Mani's Kannathil Muthamittal.
Also, she is often seen in filmi events like premieres and audio launches. So, his team is back on the hunting trial," informs the source.
Meanwhile, we hear that the ace director was impressed with Gautham's screen test for the film. "Gautham comes to Chennai frequently from Bangalore to give screen tests. Mani is quite happy with the youngster's performance and thinks he has all the potential to become an 'intelligent actor'," the source adds. Currently, Mani is busy giving final touches to the script, the one-liner of which was narrated by Jeyamohan when the two met up to discuss the now-shelved Ponniyin Selvan.
