Consecration after 160 years

Samprokshanam took place after 160 years at Sri Rukmini Sathyabama samedha Sri Venugopalaswamy Sri Seetharama Lakshmana Anjaneyaswamy temple, at Soorakottai, Thanjavur district. The temple was built by Ammani Raje, elder sister of Sivaji II, the Maratha king (1832 A.D.-1855 A.D.), on her journey to Rameswaram to help pilgrims.




Marathi epigraph



The queen also made arrangements for annadhanam. A reference to this is found in the epigraph, written in Marathi language, at this temple.



In a rare coincidence, film actor Sivaji Ganesan's family renovated the temple, after nearly 160 years, and performed the mahasamprokshanam on May 23. The temple is located in the farm owned by the family.



“We purchased the land from a Nadar family. The temple is located on a Puramboke land and is maintained by the HR and CE Department. It is an ancient temple built by the queen a of Maratha king and was in a state of disrepair. We renovated it and performed the mahasamprokshanam,” said G. Ramkumar, elder son of the actor and Giri Shanmugham, his cousin.



Renovation of the temple was completed in a year.



“We got the permission of the Jeer swamigal and also from the people of Soorakottai to renovate the temple. It is God's grace we did it,” said Giri Shanmugham.



Hundreds of people from Soorakottai witnessed the mahasamprokshanam on May 23 along with actor Prabhu, son of Sivaji Ganesan, and Vikram Prabhu of ‘Kumki’ fame.



Two avatars of Vishnu

“It is unique to see two avatars of Vishnu - Rama and Krishna - in the same temple,” said Ramkumar.



“We are fortunate to perform the mahasamprokshanam to a historical temple. We deciphered the Marathi epigraph, translated it into Tamil and have put up that version also to help people know the history of the temple,” said Prabhu.



“Those who are on their way to Pattukottai from Thanjavur cannot miss this temple,” he added.



Apart from providing other facilities to the visitors, plans to construct a car park and organise festivals regularly at the temple are on the anvil.



“We are happy that the temple has been renovated,” said Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, senior prince of Thanjavur, and descendant of the Maratha kings.

Narayanasamy's statement: HC orders issue of notices to police

The Madras High Court today ordered to issue notices to Tamil Nadu police on a petition seeking to register a case against Union Minister V Narayanasamy for his remarks against slain LTTE chief V Prabhakaran and Naam Tamizhar Katchi leader Seeman.




A division bench comprising Justices Selvam and Devadoss ordered issue of notice to the DGP and IGP, South Zone, on the petition filed by city based advocate C Ramesh and posted the case for hearing to June seven.



The petitioner alleged that Narayanasamy had last month at Puducherry made come comments against Prabhakaran and Seeman.



The petitioner said the statement of Narayanasamy was "irresponsible, scandalous and derogatory" and it "promoted enmity between Tamil speaking and non-Tamil speaking people.



Ramesh said he had complained to the DGP and IGP to take legal action against the minister under IPC section 153 (A)(promoting enmity between different groups) and file FIR.



He had also sent a copy of the complaint to President, Prime Minister, Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chief Minister.

சசிகலாவின் அண்ணன் சுந்தரவதனத்தின் மகன், டாக்டர் வெங்கடேஷ், நேற்று, நில மோசடி வழக்கில் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார். முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதாவின் தோழி சசிகலாவின் அண்ணன் சுந்தரவதனத்தின் மகன் டாக்டர் வெங்கடேஷ். ஒன்றரை ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் வரை, முதல்வரின் நம்பிக்கை பெற்ற இவர், இளைஞர் மற்றும் இளம்பெண்கள் பாசறை மாநில செயலராகவும், அதன்பின், ஜெ., பேரவை மாநில செயலராகவும் செயல்பட்டார்.




இவர் மீது எழுந்த சில புகார்களால், அப்பதவி உட்பட அனைத்து பொறுப்புகளிலும் இருந்து விடுவிக்கப்பட்டு, ஓரங்கட்டப்பட்டார். திருச்சியைச் சேர்ந்தவர் விஸ்வநாதன். இவருக்கு சொந்தமான நிலம், தஞ்சை மேலவஸ்தாசாவடியில் உள்ளது. அவரது நிலத்துக்கு அருகே, சசிகலாவின் அண்ணன் சுந்தரவதனத்தின் மகன் வெங்கடேசுக்குச் சொந்தமான இடமும் உள்ளது.



விஸ்வநாதனுக்கு சொந்தமான இடத்தை ஆக்கிரமித்து, வெங்கடேஷ் வேலி அமைத்ததாகவும், அவர் மீது வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்ய வலியுறுத்தி, 2012ல் விஸ்வநாதன், தஞ்சாவூர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் மனுத் தாக்கல் செய்தார். அதனடிப்படையில், தஞ்சாவூர் தமிழ்ப்பல்கலை போலீசார் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்தனர். விசாரணை நடந்து வந்தது.



இவ்வழக்கு தொடர்பாக தமிழ்ப்பல்கலை போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் கார்த்திகேயன் தலைமையிலான போலீசார், நேற்று, சென்னை கோட்டூர்புரத்தில் உள்ள வெங்கடேஷ் வீட்டுக்கு சென்றனர். வெங்கடேஷை கைது செய்து, தஞ்சாவூருக்கு நேற்றிரவு அழைத்து வந்தனர். கைது செய்யப்பட்ட வெங்கடேஷ், சசிகலா, நடராஜன், திவாகர், ராவணன் ஆகியோருக்கு அடுத்து, "பவர்' சென்டராக விளங்கியவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.




நேற்று முன்தினம், தஞ்சாவூரில் வெங்கடேஷின் தாய் மாமன் மகன் திருமணம் நடந்தது; இதில் வெங்கடேஷ், தினகரன் மற்றும் குடும்பத்தினர் கலந்து கொண்டனர். இந்நிலையில் நேற்று, வெங்கடேஷ் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.

அகில இந்திய தேவர் குல கூட்டமைப்பு பொதுகூட்டம் மற்றும் பள்ளி மாணவ மாணவியருக்கு நலத்திட்ட உதவிகள் வழங்கும் விழா நேற்று ( 26.05.2013 ) மாலை 5.00 மணியளவில் நெல்லை மாவட்டம் தென்காசி அருகே உள்ள மேலபாவூரில் வெகு விமர்சையாக நடைபெற்றது . இந்த விழாவில் தேவர்குல கூட்டமைப்பு நிறுவன தலைவர் திரு.S.சன்முகையாபாண்டியன் அவர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு வீர உரை ஆற்றினர் . இந்த விழாவிற்கு தென்காசி பகுதில் இருந்து சுமார் 20 கிராம மக்கள் கலந்து கொண்டனர் .




தேவரின வரலாற்றை மாற்ற நினைபவர்களுக்கு எச்சரிக்கை :



இந்திய விடுதலைக்கு முதன்முதலில் வீர முழக்கமிட்டு வெள்ளையரை எதிர்த்து 17 வருடம் போராடியவர் மாமன்னர் புலித்தேவன் . அது தமிழக முதல்வருக்கு தெரிந்தும் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட சமுதாயத்தின் ஓட்டுக்காக தேவர் சமுதாயத்தின் வரலாற்றை மறைக்கிறார். சமிபத்தில் நாடார் சமுதாயத்தை சேர , சோழ , பாண்டியர் வழிதோன்றல்கள் என குறிப்பிட்டார் . இது முற்றிலும் தவறாகும் .யார் மூவேந்தர் வம்சம் என்று அவர்களுக்கே தெரியும் . வரலாறு தெரியவில்லை என்றால் தெரிந்துகொண்ட பிறகு பேசுங்கள் . வரலாறு மறைக்கப்படும் போது தேவரின மக்கள் பார்த்து கொண்டு அமைதியாக இருப்பார்கள் என்று கனவிலும் நினைக்க வேண்டாம் என்று தேவர் சமுதாயத்தின் வரலாற்றை மாற்ற நினைபவர்களுக்கு எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளார் .

தேவரின இளைஞர்களுக்கு வேண்டுகோள் :



தேவரின இளைஞர்கள் அனைவரும் மது பழக்கத்தை அறவே ஒழிக்க வேண்டும். மற்ற பெண்களை சகோதரியாக நினைத்து அன்புடன் பழக வேண்டும் . மற்ற சமுதாய மக்களுக்கு எந்த வகையிலும் பிரச்னை கொடுக்க கொடாது . கல்வி வளர்ச்சியே சமுதாய வளர்ச்சி அதனால் நன்றாக படித்து உயர்ந்த நிலைக்கு வரவேண்டும் என்று கூறினார்.

வன்கொடுமை தடுப்பு சட்டம் என்ற பெயரில் தலித் அல்லாத பிற சமுதாயங்கள் பாதிக்கபடுவது மிகுந்த வேதனை அளிக்கிறது. இந்த சட்டத்தை மறுபரிசிலனை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளார் .

தென்மாவட்டத்தில் திறக்கபடாத நிலையில் 32 தேவர் சிலை உள்ளது அதை திறக்க முதல்வர் உத்தரவிட வேண்டும் என்று கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளார்.

குருநாத்திற்கு கால அவகாசம்: இதனிடையே, போலீசார் முன்பு இன்று ஆஜராக வேண்டும் என குருநாத் மெய்யப்பனிற்கு மும்பை போலீசார் சம்மன் அனுப்பியுள்ளனர். தான் ஆஜராக கால அவகாசம் வேண்டும் என குருநாத் மெய்யப்பன் கேட்டு கொண்டுள்ளதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. இதனை மும்பை போலீசார் பரிசீலனை செய்வதாகவும், இந்தியன் பரிமியர் லீக் தொடர் முடிவடையும் வரை, குருநாத்திடம் விசாரணை நடைபெறாது எனவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.







மவுனம் கலைத்த தோனி மனைவி: இந்நிலையில் சூதாட்டம் தொடர்பாக கைது செய்யப்பட்ட வின்டூ, சென்னை அணி கேப்டன் தோனி மனைவி சாக்ஷி அருகில் அமர்ந்திருந்தவாறும், சிரித்து பேசியவாறும் புகைப்படம் வெளியானது. இது குறித்து கருத்து இந்தி பாட்டு மூலம் டுவீட்டரில் கருத்து தெரிவித்துள்ளார். அதில், உலகத்தில் உள்ளவர்கள் எதையாவது சொல்லிக் கொண்டு தான் இருப்பார்கள். அது தான் அவர்களது வேலை என சூசகமாக கூறியுள்ளார்.

Highmeadow student honored as ‘Paws for Applause' winner

Madhavan Thevar, a third-grader at Highmeadow Elementary in Farmington Hills, is the first “Paws for Applause'' winner of the 2013 baseball season.




“Paws for Applause,” is a partnership of the Observer & Eccentric Media and the Detroit Tigers, to honor extraordinary young people for giving back in some way to their schools, communities and/or families.



Madhavan, 8, won four Detroit Tigers baseball tickets, a Little Caesars value certificate good for a free pizza, and an autographed photograph of Detroit Tiger pitcher, Doug Fister. He was congratulated by the PAWS and presented a certificate from the Detroit Tigers on the baseball field during the May 12 game.



Mani Arumugam, Madhavan's proud father, nominated his son for the honor. He explained in his letter that Madhavan started a handwriting campaign called, McScRiBbles, to help preserve the art of handwriting.



“Children are slowly moving away from pen and paper and using electronic communication,'' wrote Arumugam. “Handwriting is an art.” Arumugam indicated that Madhavan started a self-published magazine called McScRiBbles. His magazine is produced in both a handwritten and web version.



Positive change



Arumugam added that Madhaven makes positive change in lives of youth by providing a platform for children to write and submit their stories. “Madhavan believes that every kid will use their handwriting to improve their imagination if the opportunity is given.”



In his nominating letter to the O&E, Arumugam wrote that “Madhavan started McScRiBbles in the summer of 2012 when he was in the second grade. He wrote various handwritten articles and self-published them. He requested his friends to join hands to write handwritten articles. Almost all his friends joined and started writing.

“McScRiBbler's have taken interviews from many famous personalities. To name a few, Sheila Taormina - USA Olympic Champion, Jerome Soble - Sculpture and Artist, Genot Picor - Native Indian Story Teller, Musician and Dancer, Chuck Nebus - Chief of Police, Farmington Hills, Nick Hippler - Inspector of Fire Station, Farmington Hills, and more.”

Delhi HC seeks info from Centre on Netaji's ashes

The Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to inform it where exactly the ashes of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose are being kept.




Hearing a PIL seeking direction to the government to bring back the ashes lying in a museum in Germany, a bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath said, "This is a news to us, for we heard that Bose was cremated in Japan and his ashes were lying in a Tokyo museum."



It asked Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Rajeeve Mehra to take instructions from the government on the exact position of the ashes.



The bench fixed July 31 as the next date of hearing.



The court was hearing a PIL by Prashant Paliwal through counsel Sugriv Dubey seeking directions to bring back to India the ashes of Bose lying in a museum in Germany and to keep them at a public place for paying tributes to the late leader.



"The ashes of late Subhash Chandra Bose to be directed to be brought to India and kept in a public place for paying tributes to late leader for the sacrifices made by him in the freedom struggle of the nation," the plea said.



The plea further sought for an order for submerging of the ashes into Ganga and also sprinkle atop Himalayas claiming that the same had been done in cases of other national leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
