Outgoing Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is responsible for the truth aboutSubhash Chandra Bose not coming out till date, says the author of a book that is to be published in July.
According to Anuj Dhar, Netaji could not have died in the 1945 aircrash in Taiwan as there is evidence of him being in Russia some years later.
Anuj has based his book on US, Indian and British records which have been declassified so far. India's Biggest Cover-Up mentions an interesting development in 1996.
The then Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs wanted to request Russia to go through the KGB archives so that whatever information they might have about Netaji can be recovered.
However, Pranab Mukherjee who was heading the ministry at that time ensured that the matter was not pursued by asking Foreign Secretary Salman Haider to convince his subordinate against approaching theRussians.
Citing this, Anuj describes Pranab as "India's foremost proponent of the Bose died in Taiwan theory." He also refers to the Justice Mukherjee Commission which sought to remove the veil of mystery over Netaji's death.
Pranab's testimony was included in the commission's report, yet it was surprisingly rejected by the Union Cabinet of which he was a member.
As for what all happened to Netaji after 1945, Anuj believes that the founder of the Azad Hind Fauj lived in independent India.
"There is some evidence to suggest he died in Faizabad but the question can only be incontestably settled when government undertakes comprehensive declassification especially of those documents held by intelligence agencies," Anuj avers.
