Veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja is celebrating his birthday yesterday. The ace director has won several National awards in his long career and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2004.
In 1982, he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu for Seethakoka Chiluka. Later, Mudhal Mariyadhai won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil in 1986. In 1988 Vedham Pudhidhu won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues. In 1995 Bharathiraja won the National Film Award for Best Film on Family Welfare for Karuththamma and in 1996, the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for Anthimanthaarai. His Kadal Pookal won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2001.
Apart from this, he has won several other awards and accolades. He also has the distinction of introducing several stars to Koyllwood including Navarasa nayagan Karthik, Radha, Radhika, Rohini, Bagyaraj, Suganya, Napoleon,Kajal Agarwal and many others.
Bharathiraj is currently directing Anna Kodiyum Kodi Veeranum.
