A group of 22 members of the Trade Union Coordination Centre (TUCC), affiliated to the All India Forward Bloc, was arrested here on Tuesday after they attempted to stage a rail roko urging the Centre to declare Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose birthday on January 23 as National Patriotic Day.
The TUCC members condemned the BJP government at the Centre for “refusing” to reveal the true history of the freedom fighter.
The centre also demanded the establishment of a memorial in memory of the heroes of the Indian National Army in front of the Red Fort in New Delhi. The members who attempted to take out a procession from the Tiruchi junction roundabout to the railway station were arrested by the police.
The protest was headed by TUCC district secretary T.Kasimaya Thevar.
