Thevar Jayanthi: people told not to undertake ‘padayatra’ to Pasumpon

Collectors of eight districts have appealed to followers of U. Muthuramalinga Thevar not to undertake ‘padayatra’ to Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district during his birth anniversary celebration on October 30.
In a statement issued on behalf of Collectors of Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Pudukottai, Theni and Madurai, the Ramanathapuram Collector, K. Nanthakumar, said that those who visit Pasumpon should follow certain guidelines in the larger interest of the people. They should take the stipulated routes from their respective districts to reach and leave their destination. The followers were advised not to come in open vehicles or in vehicles fitted with public address systems.
They were prohibited from carrying any weapons or tools that had the potential to cause injuries. All vehicles would be subject to checks at check posts on important roads. Armed police personnel would be posted on important routes and in residential areas.
Political parties and community organisations, which wish to pay homage at Muthuramalinga Thevar memorial in Pasumpon between October 28 and 30, have to submit a formal application to the Ramanathapuram Collector’s office.
The last date for submission of applications is October 22. Time slots will be allotted for homage to different outfits on all the three days.

Routes for going to Pasumpon for guru puja
The district administration has laid down strict norms to be followed by those who visit Pasumpon to offer respect to Muthuramalinga Thevar for guru puja on October 29 and 30.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Collector T.N. Hariharan said that the vehicles going to Ramanathapuram district for guru puja should follow the routes proposed by the police.
People would be allowed to go only in covered vehicles and not in open vehicles such as lorries and vans.
The vehicles should not have any public address system and weapons, including sticks used for tying banners and flags. No one should be allowed to travel on the roof and on the footboard.
The ladders and luggage carriers in the vans and buses should be removed to prevent people travelling on it. The vehicles that violate the rules would be seized.
Those proceeding to Pasumpon should provide details of vehicles and the people intend to travel to the village administrative officer, the Regional Transport Office and the local police station.
The vehicle drivers should have the details of people travelling in it.
Routes
Vehicles coming from Sattur, Rajapalayam, Srivilliputtur, Sivakasi, Virudhunagar, Mallankinaru, Kariapatti, and Pandgudi should go through Aruppukottai, M. Reddiapatti, Mandapasalai, Kanavilakku, Kannarpatti junction, Kamudi and Pasumpon and return in the same route.
The vehicles coming from Narikudi and Veeracholan should go through Parthibanur, Abiramam and take the same route in the return direction.
Vehicles from Tirunelveli should go through Virudhunagar, Aruppukottai and Kanavilakku. Vehicles from Tuticorin district should go through Pandalgudi, Aruppukottai bypass road and Ramalinga Mill.
