The epic movie Karnan was re-released recently. It became a
massive hit, for the second time. Following the success now plans are
underway to release Veerapandiya Katta Bomman, another epic saga from the filmography of the legendary Sivaji Ganesan in 3D.
Raj Television, which played a vital role in releasing Karnan, is very keen on rejuvenating the movie Veerapandiya Katta Bomman too. They have a long list of movies with such plans ahead, says a source close to the channel. Raj claims that they have the rights of over 3000 old movies, out of which they have identified 100 as master-pieces. We could possibly see a flurry of such movies hitting the theatres in the near future.
Veerapandiya Katta Bomman (1959) is written by Sakthi T. K. Krishnasamy and directed by B. R. Panthulu. The cast includes Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Padmini, S. Varalakshmi, and V. K. Ramasamy. This movie is about Veerapandiya Kattabomman, who was a Tamil chieftain, who rose in rebellion against the East India Company and fought against the mighty British. This movie is still remembered for the famous dialogue that Sivaji had delivered as Kattabomman. Veerapandiya Katta Bomman was the first Tamil film to be shot in Technicolor.
