An individual aspiring to contest the parliamentary elections this year has approached the Madras High Court Bench here seeking a direction to the police to remove his name from the Dossiers Criminal Index maintained against him in Ramanathapuram district.
On Monday, Justice R. Subbiah posted the case to Tuesday for passing orders. In his affidavit, S. Ganesa Thevar (35) of Kothiyarkottai said that he was the founder-president of All India Thevar Ilaignar Peravai.
The cases were booked by the R.S. Mangalam, Tirupattur and Ettayapuram police under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 457 (lurking house-trespass or house breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code. He contested the cases after being enlarged on bail and got acquitted from all the three cases.
However, the Ramanathapuram police continued to maintain his name in the Dossiers Criminal Index maintained by them under the Police Standing Order, his counsel W. Peter Rameshkumar claimed. “The name should be removed forthwith since the petitioner has been involved in social welfare activities and a probable candidate for Ramanathapuram constituency,” he added.
