Bala, the National Award winner, keeps his cards close to his chest when it comes to his films.
His upcoming flick, Thaarai Thappattai, is no different. Known for his offbeat themes and portraying his lead actors in a wacky manner from Vikram to Arya to Vishal to Pooja to young Atharva he is once again at it with TT.
The new movie is based on our traditional folk art, Karagaattam.
While actress Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar, a trained dancer, has been chosen to play the lead, noted director/actor Sasikumar is the male protagonist.
It has been rumoured that Sasi plays a nadaswara vidwan with a new look doing away with his facial hair, which is always associated with him, and sporting a pencil moustache.
Inside sources, who disclosed a bit of the story, told DC that Sasi was not essaying the role of the nadaswara vidwan. Instead, he belongs to a Brahmin family and plays the thavil (melam).
Normally, in a Brahmin family, young boys are encouraged to learn only the mridangam (also a percussion instrument).
In Thaarai Thappattai too, Sasi’s parents want him to learn the mridangam, but the boy’s heart is in the thavil and he decides to leave the family to pursue his passion.
