Various Thevar outfits in Tamil Nadu today called for a state-wide bandh on November 7 to protest the killing of seven of their community members in caste related violence during Thevar jayanthi celebrations in the last week of October and demanding a judicial probe into it.
Speaking to reporters here, P V Kathiravan, MLA and Thevar community leaders B T Arasakumar and Sridhar Vandayar alleged that there was a conspiracy to disturb the unity among their community. There was need to find out the culprits behind the violence, espcially those behind the Petrol bomb attack on a car, in which three were killed and 17 were injured, they said.
They also demanded more compensation to the victims, and treatment for those injured in the attack.
The leaders also decided to hold a public meeting here on Nov 9 to condemn the attacks.
