The Akila India Nadalum Makkal Katchi (AINMK) would join an alliance led by a Dravidian party to contest in the forthcoming Assembly election, its founder and actor M. Karthik said here on Sunday.

According to him, there is lack of effective governance in the State. He garlanded a portrait of late Sethurama Pandian of Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam at his residence at S.N. Village in Tirunelveli. Sources said that Mr. Karthik was here to unveil a statue of Sethurama Pandian at his residence. But, permission was denied to unveil the statue.

During his visit, police deployed at the location launched a mild lathi charge at the gathering after one man in the crowd threw a chair at a policeman. Meanwhile, scores of people attempted to reach close to Mr. Karthik. However, the situation was brought under control after the lathi charge.
