Bharathiraja refuses to react to Ilayaraja’s ‘Madman speech’ comments

The duo of Bharathiraj-Ilayaraja has worked magic in many of the films in the eighties. They, however, fell out with each other in late eighties and despite being spotted at many re-union occurring, they still remain separated from each other. When they meet at filmy functions, they are seen to interact rather freely.

The war between the veterans is well and truly on. Bharathiraja started it by advising Ilayaraja, at the recent audio-launch of his upcoming film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum. Ilayaraja was spotted stirring embarrassingly in his seat as he couldn’t reply to Bharathiraaja’s remarks at that moment.

He was, however, presented with an opportunity during a recent interview and sough what he felt when Bharathiraja made many remarks about him.

Ilaiyaraaja was polished in his reply but didn’t mince his words. ‘I was called for the audio launch and insulted in public,he could have said those to me privately. Also Instead of advising me to behave in the same manner in which he behaves, it would be better for him to mind his madman speech ” said Ilayaraja and then went on to add that in future, he would completely’ neglect whatever the veteran film-maker would have to say about him.

Queried by newsmen yesterday to react to Ilayaraja’s remarks on Madman speech comments, Bharathiraja appeared visibly irritated. “I have nothing to say on the issue. I don’t know why you (the press) want to rake up the issue any further. We are not politicians and I’m not going to respond to this,” said Bharathiraja.
