Seeman justifies Malik’s presence

Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman has hit out at the objections raised by Congress leaders to the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik at his party’s public meeting in Cuddalore. He raised a number of questions to counter the statements from BS Gnanadesikan the state unit chief of the Congress.

“Yasin Malik’s JKLF is not a banned organisation, but a political party functioning freely. JKLF leaders have the right to go anywhere in the country and voice their opinions. Why shouldn’t a Kashmiri leader be brought to speak in Tamil Nadu? Isn’t Kashmir a part of India just as TN is? If you accuse him of being a separatist, why then have Manmohan Singh appointed senior official to hold talks with Yasin Malik?” said Seeman in a statement on Tuesday.

He also accused the Congress of giving red carpet welcome to Mahinda Rajapaksa who he said was responsible for the murder of lakhs of Tamils using banned weaponry in the Sri Lankan civil war, and was also responsible for tthe killing of 544 fishermen over 35 years as the chief of the Sri Lankan Navy.

He ridiculed the comme-nts of the Congress leaders. “Congress and BJP, which are two sides of the same coin, are the ones who are talking about patriotism. We are talking about people’s right. Whenever we talk of freedom for Eelam, they talk of India’s sovereignty. What does this have to do with that? It is puzzling and funny. We find no need to explain the concept of sovereignty to leaders who don’t understand it,” said Seeman.
