Vidarbha bandh gets mixed response in Yavatmal

The one-day Vidarbha bandh call by All India Forward Bloc on Monday to demand statehood received mixed response in Yavatmal. The bandh was total in the city market as the shopkeepers did not open their shutters throughout the day. The bandh was peaceful and there was no untoward incident reported from anywhere in the district, informed Lalji Raut, the district president of Vidarbha Janata Congress. He has also condemned the arrest of the separate Vidarbha protagonist and former MP Jambhuwantrao Dhote by Nagpur police and said they would meet the challenges let loose by the Western Maharashtra political lobby accordingly. Normal life was hit as autorickshaw drivers' union joined the bandh. Most of the transport vehicles remained off the road throughout the day to support bandh. According to the unions, over 17,000 auto drivers joined the bandh in the district. The petrol pump dealers also joined the bandh and kept their outlets closed till noon, informed Petrol Pump Owners Sanghatana president Paresh Lathiwala. Schools and colleges, too extended support to the daylong bandh.
