Minister inspects special dengue ward at hospital

Even as two more dengue patients admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) here died to take the death toll to 14, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries P. Senthur Pandian visited the TVMCH on Saturday and had discussion with the hospital authorities on treatment being given to dengue patients.




Since the dengue outbreak in the western parts of the district triggered panic among the public with almost all the hospitals overflowing with patients afflicted by this dreaded viral infection, the district administration intensified anti-dengue operations in the affected areas. A special ward has been established at the hospital for the dengue patients. After enquiring with patients, mostly children, undergoing treatment, Mr. Senthur Pandian held discussion with the doctors.



Later speaking to reporters, the Minister said that the intensified anti-dengue operations at Kadayam, Tenkasi and Kadayanallur had yielded good results as the influx of fresh dengue patients to hospitals had declined considerably. Moreover, adequate quantity of medicines and blood had been stocked at the TVMCH and also in the government hospitals in the western parts of the district that were receiving dengue patients. He assured that anti-dengue operations would continue in the affected areas and preventive steps would be intensified in other areas.



Mayor Vijila Sathyananth, former Mayor A. Jayarani and others accompanied the Minister.
