Protests against Congress turns violent

Congress leaders' disapproval of the Tamil Nadu government's decision to release the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case sparked violent protests with pro-Eelam supporters attacking Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the TNCC headquarters in Chennai on Wednesday. Protests by members of Naam Tamilar Peravai and the little-known Tamilar Munnetra Padai turned violent and effigies of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and actor Seeman were set afire. Protestors ripped posters and hurled stones into the Congress office. In the melee, four persons, including a police constable, were injured.
