Floral tributes were paid to freedom fighter and late leader of All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) U.Muthuramalinga Thevar on his 107th Birth anniversary and 52nd Guru Pooja celebrations, amid unprecedented tight security, here today. Senior DMK Leader MK Stalin, former DMK Ministers Thangam Thennarasu, I.Periyasamy, Pon Muthuramalingam, K.R.Periya Karuppan, and Subha Thangavelan paid homage on behalf of the party. TMMK-Thevar Peravai men clash; 7 injured

A tussle over hoising flags led to violence in Tambaram At least seven people were reportedly injured in a group clash that erupted at Tamabarm market area a little before midnight on Wednesday. Police sources said the clash was a result of previous enmity between two outfits. The Tambaram Thevar Peravai (TTP) members were placing placards and erecting flag posts all over the market area as part of 107th Jayanthi celebration of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on Thursday. When attempts were made to erect flag post on Muthuranga Mudali Street, it was stalled by men who claimed to be from the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam. After heated arguments, the rival groups attacked each other with soda bottles and iron rods. Three persons each from both camps were admitted in private hospitals in Tambaram. One member of TTP was critically injured and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital, sources said. Senior police officials visited the spot and policemen have been posted on Shanmugam Road and MRM Street in West Tambaram. Situation is still tense, but under control, said a police official, who was patrolling the areas since midnight.

PM Modi approached for fresh probe into Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's disappearance

Claiming that the findings of the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry into the alleged disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were 'incomplete", a city-based organisation has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a new panel to unravel the nationalist leader's mysterious disappearance. The commission in its report in 2006 had concluded that Bose did not die in the alleged air crash of 1945 and the ashes at the Renkoji temple are not his ashes. The report did not comment on his alleged stay in Russia after 1945 and called for further investigation into the matter. The Netaji Chetna Mancha - an organisation of researchers - in the letter has claimed the existence of evidence suggesting that Netaji was active in China, Vietnam and other countries well after the alleged plane crash in Taipei in 1945. "The Mukherjee Commission report was half done and incomplete, that is why it was rejected in 2006. Moreover, Justice M.K. Mukherjee has confessed in a documentary titled 'The Black Box of History' that the unnamed saint in Faizabad (Uttar Pradesh) was Netaji," Jayanta Choudhury, the general secretary of the Mancha said in the letter. Choudhury also referred to a judgment by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court directing the Uttar Pradesh government to form a panel to probe the identity of Gumnami Baba alias Bhagwanji of Faizabad, who many claim was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Choudhury, who deposed before the commission, has also claimed that declassified CIA reports and other documents reveal that Bose was alive and active in Russia, China, Vietnam and other countries even after the alleged plane crash. "In consideration of the above facts, initiative should be taken to re-institute a high-powered commission with national and international jurists for completing the fractional report of the Mukherjee Commission and give justice to the national hero," Choudhury said in the letter. Several organisations including a host of Bose's descendants have been running a countrywide campaign calling for declassification of 'secret files' on the nationalist leader, claimed to be in the possession of the central government. Thevar, a national leader, who wielded considerable influence

A man who should have been accorded national recognition, has been limited to Tamil Nadu and one community. Pasumpon U Muthuramalinga Thevar who donated thousands of acres of land to dalits and Muslims, struggled to repeal the Criminal Tribes Act that restricted movements of male members belonging to about dozens of communities and helped the activist and freedom fighter A Vaidyanatha Iyer on July 8, 1939 to take dalits to Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple, Madurai is now portrayed as a leader of a particular community. The man's birth anniversary and death anniversary (Gurupooja) curiously fall on October 30. Owner of 32 and a half villages, he was born on October 30, 1908 in Pasumpon village in Ramanthapuram district. He died on October 30, 1963 in Thirumangalam near Madurai. Every year, lakhs of people congregate at his memorial situated in Pasumpon to pay homage. As many as 5,000 police personnel have been deployed in Pasumpon on the occasion of his 107th birth anniversary and 52nd Gurupooja today (Thursday). The people who love Thevar's thoughts and principles and respect him regret that his anniversaries have to take place under a communal cover. Thevar was a national leader who wielded considerable influence. It is believed that largely due to his support, in 1939 Netaji Subash Chandra Bose defeated Mahatma Gandhi' nominee Pattabhi Sitaramaiah to become the president of the Indian National Congress. In another episode, when Gandhi wanted Rajaji (then governor general of India) to be selected as the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president at 1945 conference in Thiruparankundram, Thevar had supported Kamaraj for the post and succeeded in his bid. In India, the British government had passed orders restraining two freedom fighters from making political speeches at public meetings (in Tamil it is called Vaai Poottu Chattam). The two were Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Muthuramalinga Thevar. When the Japanese government had on August 18, 1945 announced that Netaji died in an air crash, Thevar announced at a public meeting on January 23, 1949, which happened to be Netaji's birthday, that the latter was alive and he had met him. This resulted in the central government setting up the Shah Nawaz Committee to enquire into Netaji's death. "In fact, Thevar fielded persons of other communities in the elections and struggled against communal domination in the state. His victory against Shanmuga Rajeswara Naganatha Sethupathi in the Mudhukulathur assembly constituency in 1937 was a classic example to show that he was a man above communalism," said T. Harappa, coordinator, Thevar Peravai PolitBureau. Thevar helped state's former chief minister K. Kamaraj to contest in the then municipality election by giving a goat to him after paying necessary tax in his name (then there was a practice that a person who contests in the election should be a property holder. As this was not so in Kamaraj's case, he was helped, said Harappa. "As he was a landlord he did a lot of good things for the Dalits donating 87,000 acres of land to Dalit people. He was an activist and trade unionist. He headed 23 trade unions. He criticized cash for voting, raised his voice for maternity leave for women. His task was to repeal Criminal Tribes Act," said V.S. Navamani, president, Pasumpon Thevar Sindhanai Peravai.

தேவர் ஜெயந்தியை முன்னிட்டு முளைப்பாரி, பால்குடம் ஊர்வலங்களுக்கு கட்டுப்பாடு விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதுகுறித்து மதுரை நகர் போலீஸ் கமிஷனர் சஞ்சய் மாத்தூர் வெளியிட்டுள்ள செய்தி குறிப்பில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:– மதுரை மாநகரில் தேவர் ஜெயந்தியையொட்டி 3 ஆயிரம் போலீசார் மற்றும் 6 கம்பெனி சிறப்பு காவல் படையினர் பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டு உள்ளனர். முளைப்பாரி, பால்குட ஊர்வலங்கள் அதிகாலை புறப்பட்டு காலை 8 மணிக்குள் போலீசார் அனுமதித்துள்ள வழித்தடங்களில் மட்டுமே சென்று முடித்து விட வேண்டும். போலீஸ் நிலையங்களில் அனுமதி பெற்ற வாகன அனுமதி சீட்டு ஒட்டிய வாகனங்கள் மட்டுமே மதுரையில் இருந்து பசும்பொன் செல்ல அனுமதிக்கப்படும். மோட்டார் சைக்கிள் ஊர்வலமாக செல்ல அனுமதி கிடையாது. தேனியில் இருந்து வரும் வாகனங்கள் முடக்குச் சாலை, தேனி மெயின் ரோடு, காளவாசல், அரசரடி, புது ஜெயில் ரோடு, சிம்மக்கல், யானைக்கல், மேளக்காரத் தெரு, கோரிப்பாளையம், ஆவின் ஜங்ஷன், குருவிக்காரன் சாலை, தெப்பக்குளம் வழியாக ராமநாதபுரம் சாலையில் செல்ல வேண்டும். திண்டுக்கல் வாகனங்கள் பாத்திமா கல்லூரி, கொன்னவாயன் சாலை, பாலம் ஸ்டேசன் ரோடு, கோரிப்பாளையம், பனகல் சாலை, குருவிக்காரன் சாலை, தெப்பக்குளம் வழியாக பசும்பொன் செல்ல வேண்டும். திருநெல்வேலி, விருதுநகர், மதுரை பகுதியில் இருந்து வரும் வாகனங்கள் பழங்காநத்தம், டி.பி.கே. ரோடு, பெரியார் பஸ் நிலையம் மேற்கு, வடக்கு வெளி வீதிகள், யானைக்கல் கல்பாலம், கோரிப்பாளையம், தேவர் சிலை வந்து பின்னர் குருவிக்காரன் சாலை, தெப்பக்குளம் வழியாக பசும்பொன் செல்ல வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு அதில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சொத்து பிரச்சினையால் வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறிய நடிகர் கார்த்திக்: போலீசில் புகார்

டைரக்டர் பாரதிராஜாவின் ‘அலைகள் ஓய்வதில்லை’ படத்தில் அறிமுகமான நடிகர் கார்த்திக் ஏராளமான படங்களில் நடித்துள்ளார். இவரது மகன் கவுதம் கார்த்திக்கும் தற்போது படங்களில் நடித்து வருகிறார். கார்த்திக்குக்கும் அவரது குடும்பத்தினருக்கும் ஆழ்வார்பேட்டையில் உள்ள அவரது வீடு மற்றும் இடங்கள் தொடர்பாக நீண்ட நாட்களாக சொத்து தகராறு இருந்து வந்தது. இதன் காரணமாக கடந்த சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்னர் கார்த்திக் திடீர் என வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறினார். தற்போது அவர் தனியாக தங்கி இருப்பதாக தெரிகிறது. இந்த நிலையில் கார்த்திக் நேற்று இரவு தேனாம்பேட்டை போலீஸ் நிலையத்திற்கு சென்று ஒரு புகார் மனு அளித்தார். அதில் சொத்து தகராறு தொடர்பாக ஏற்பட்டுள்ள பிரச்சினைகளை தீர்த்து வைக்குமாறு குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். இதுபற்றி போலீஸ் தரப்பில் கேட்ட போது சொத்து விவகாரம் தொடர்பாக கார்த்திக் அளித்த புகார் குறித்து விசாரித்து வருகிறோம் என்று கூறினர்.

HC upholds restriction on hired vehicles during Thevar guru puja

The Madras High Court Bench here on Tuesday upheld the validity of an order passed by Ramanathapuram Collector prohibiting the use of hired vehicles to enter Pasumpon on the eve of the birth-cum-death anniversary of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar on October 30. A Division Bench comprising Justices V. Dhanapalan and V.M. Velumani dismissed, as devoid of merits, a public interest litigation petition filed by S. Rajamaravan alias Manickavasagam (31), coordinator of Thevar Ina Ilam Puligal, a private organisation based at Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district. Though the petitioner contended that the restriction imposed by the Collector would prevent the poor from visiting the freedom fighter’s memorial at Pasumpon, the judges said that it could not be a ground for the court to interfere with an executive order intended towards maintenance of law and order. Writing the judgement for the Bench, Mr. Justice Dhanapalan held the proceedings issued by the district administration to prevent untoward incidents on the day of Thevar Guru Puja-cum-Jayanthi could not be termed to have been passed in contravention of any of the Constitutional provisions. He also said another Division Bench of Justice M. Jaichandren and Justice R. Mahadevan had last month dismissed a case challenging a similar order passed by the Ramanathapuram Collector in view of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran’s death anniversary on September 10. Disposing of another PIL seeking permission for entry of “white board vehicles” owned by individuals for personal use, the Bench led by Mr. Justice Dhanapalan recorded the submission of Additional Advocate General K. Chellapandian that there was no restriction on such vehicles. The Bench pointed out that even the order of the Collector categorically states that the restriction was being imposed only with respect to hired vehicles and the decision was taken only with the consent of the leaders of the community concerned.

முதுகுளத்தூரில் துப்பறியும் நாய்கள் சோதனை

தேவர் ஜெயந்தியையொட்டி முதுகுளத்தூரில் துப்பறியும் நாய்கள் மூலம் சோதனை நடத்தப்பட்டது. வருகிற 30–ந்தேதி கமுதி பசும்பொன்னில் தேவர் குரு பூஜை நடக்க இருப்பதால் பாதுகாப்பு பணிகளுக்காக வெளிமாவட்டங்களில் இருந்து போலீசார் குவிக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றனர். நேற்று முதுகுளத்தூர் பஜார், தெருக்கள், ஆளில்லா கட்டிடங்களில் முதுகுளத்தூர்  டி.எஸ்.பி. நடராஜன், ராமநாதபுரம் ஆயுதப்பிரிவு டி.எஸ்.பி. தண்டீஸ்வரன் தலைமையிலும், இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் மூக்கன் முன்னிலையிலும் துப்பறியும் நாய்கள் மூலம் சோதனை நடந்தது. தேனி, திண்டுக்கல், விருதுநகர், மதுரை, திருநெல்வேலி, தூத்துக்குடி, ராமநாதபுரம், சிவகங்கை ஆகிய 8 மாவட்டங்களை சேர்ந்த 20 துப்பறியும் நாய்களோடு சிறப்பு பயிற்சி பெற்ற போலீசாரும் இப்பணியில் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டனர் திடீரென நாய்கள் பஜார், தெருக்களில் சோதனை செய்ததால் அங்கு பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.

ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டம் பசும்பொன்னில் முத்துராமலிங்க தேவர் ஜெயந்தி விழா மற்றும் குருபூஜை விழா நாளை (28–ந்தேதி) தொடங்கி வருகிற 30–ந்தேதி வரை நடைறெ உள்ளது. இந்த விழாவில் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான பொதுமக்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு அஞ்சலி செலுத்த உள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில் கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதம் அ.தி.மு.க. சார்பில் அப்போதைய முதல்–அமைச்சர் ஜெயலலிதா முத்துராமலிங்க தேவர் சிலைக்கு தங்க கவசத்தை அணிவித்தார். அதன் பின் வங்கியில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தங்க கவசத்தை முதல்–அமைச்சர் ஓ.பன்னீர்செல்வம் வங்கியில் இருந்து பெற்று விழா கமிட்டியிடம் வழங்கினார். பசும்பொன் கொண்டு வரப்பட்ட தங்க கவசம் தேவர் சிலைக்கு அணிவிக்கப்பட்டது. தேவர் ஜெயந்தி விழா ஏற்பாடுகளை அமைச்சர் சுந்தர்ராஜ் மற்றும் அதிகாரிகள் பார்வையிட்டு ஆய்வு செய்தனர். தேவர் ஜெயந்தி 3 நாட்கள் நடைபெற உள்ளதை முன்னிட்டு ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டம் முழுவதும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான போலீசார் தீவிர பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டு உள்ளனர். மேலும் மாவட்டத்தின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் 40–க்கும் மேற்பட்ட சோதனை சாவடிகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு தீவிர வாகன சோதனை நடத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது. கிராம பகுதிகளில் வெடிபொருட்கள் பதுக்கி வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதா? என்பதை கண்டறிய 30 துப்பறியும் மோப்ப நாய்கள் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டம் முழுவதும் ஏற்கனவே 144 தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Marudhu brothers’ guru puja peaceful

Guru puja of Marudhu Pandiyar brothers passed off peacefully on Monday with no untoward incident reported in Madurai and Sivaganga districts. Though 186 vehicles passed through the check-posts put up by Madurai Rural police this time, the police did not encounter any major problem in regulating them, Superintendent of Police Vijayendra Bidari said. With prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in effect, only private vehicles, and not hired ones, were allowed to proceed to the memorial at Kalaiyarkoil in Sivaganga district. The police had put up 12 check-posts on the district borders. Only those vehicles that had obtained passes from the respective police stations were allowed to proceed after verification of all the documents. Panneerselvam to visit Pasumpon for Guru Poojai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam along with his senior cabinet colleagues would visit Ramanathapuram district to honour Muthuramalinga Thevar on the eve of Guru Poojai on October 30. The Chief Minister would place a wreath at the Muthuramalinga Thevar Memorial located at Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram village, an official release said. Housing Minister R Vaithilingam, Cooperative Societies Minister Sellur K Raju, Food Minister R Kamaraj, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sundarraj, Revenue Minister R B Udayakumar, Slum Clearance Board chairman K Thangamuthu and Housing Board chairman R Murugaiah Pandiyan would also place wreaths on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, it said. Bharathi Raja conferred with US Awards in New York

Veteran director Bharathiraja was conferred with awards at a function organized by America Tamil Sangam in New York on Saturday. Nassau County Executive (Mayor) Edward Mangano honored the director with the American proclamation for his service to cinema and America Tamil Sangam conferred the title Tamil Ratna on the ace director in the same event. Describing Bharathiraja as a towering personality of Indian cinema, the proclamation said at a time when directors went abroad to film either entire movie or songs, Bharathiraja introduced the beauty of unspoiled and pristine unseen villages to the audience. He won several awards from the Government of India including Padma Shri and National awards. The Nassau County proclamation was presented in absentia as Mr. Mangano could not make it at the last minute. Replying to felicitations, Bharathiraja said Diaspora Tamils excelled in various fields such as politics, medicine and law due to their hard work and dedication. He compared Diaspora Tamils to that of a newly wed bride who would bring good name to the family in which she was born and to the family she is married to. He complimented the American Tamils for fostering their roots in Tamil Nadu and the America Tamil Sangam for promoting Tamil culture in the US. ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டம் கமுதி அருகே உள்ள பசும்பொன்னில் முத்துராமலிங்கத் தேவரின் நினைவிடம் உள்ளது. தேவரின் 106–வது ஜெயந்தி விழா மற்றும் 46–வது குருபூஜை விழா வருகிற 28, 29, 30 ஆகிய தேதிகளில் நடைபெற உள்ளது. இதில் தமிழகத்தின் பல்வேறு மாவட்டங்களில் இருந்து பல்லாயிரக்கணக்கானோர் கலந்து கொள்வார்கள். பல்வேறு அரசியல் கட்சி தலைவர்கள், தேவர் நினைவிடம் வந்து அஞ்சலி செலுத்துகிறார்கள். இதையொட்டி பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் 5 ஆயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட போலீசார் ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட இருக்கிறார்கள். தற்போது பசும்பொன் கிராமத்துக்கு வந்து செல்வோரை கண்காணிக்க அங்கு 24 மணி நேரமும் கமுதி சப்–இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் தங்கப்பாண்டியன் தலைமையில் போலீசார் பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகிறார்கள்.

பசும்பொன்னில் நடைபெற உள்ள பசும்பொன் முத்துராமலிங்க தேவர் ஜெயந்தி விழாவையொட்டி மாவட்ட நிர்வாகத்தின் சார்பில் பல்வேறு நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது தொடர்பாக கலெக்டர் நந்தகுமார் தலைமையில் ஆலோசனை கூட்டமும் நடைபெற்றது. பின்னர் அவர் கூறியதாவது:– மாவட்டத்தில் தற்போது நடைமுறையில் உள்ள 144 தடை உத்தரவின் அடிப்படையில் வாடகை வாகனங்கள், டிராக்டர், இருசக்கர வாகனங்கள், ஆட்டோ போன்றவை வர அனுமதி கிடையாது. 30–ந் தேதி பசும்பொன்னில் நடைபெறும் விழாவுக்கு ராமநாதபுரம் மற்றும் பிற மாவட்டங்களில் இருந்து வருபவர்கள் சொந்த வாகனத்தில் மட்டுமே வர அனுமதிக்கப்படுவர். அவ்வாறு வருபவர்கள் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட போலீஸ் நிலையங்களில் வாகன பதிவு சான்றிதழ், வாகன ஓட்டுனரின் உரிமம், வாகனத் தில் பயணம் செய்வோரின் விவரம் உள்ளிட்ட விவரங்களை மாவட்ட போலீஸ் சூப்பிரண்டு அலுவலகத்தில் வருகிற 22–ந்தேதிக்குள் தெரிவித்து அதற்கான அனுமதி சான்றினை பெற்றுக்கொள்ள வேண்டும். இந்த அனுமதி சீட்டு அந்தந்த வாகனத்தின் முன்புற கண்ணாடியில் ஒட்டியிருக்க வேண்டும். மேலும் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட வழித்தடங்களில் மட்டுமே வந்து செல்ல வேண்டும். இதனை சோதனைச்சாவடியில் உள்ள போலீசார் மற்றும் நெடுஞ்சாலை ரோந்து பணியில் உள்ள போலீசார் கண்காணிப்பார்கள். சரக்கு வாகனங்களில் வருவதற்கு முற்றிலுமாக தடை செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. விழாவுக்கு வருபவர்கள் வாகனத்தின் மேற்கூரையில் பயணம் செய்யவோ, ஆயுதங்கள் எடுத்து வரவோ, ஒலி பெருக்கிகள் பொருத்துவதற்கோ, சாதி, மத உணர்வுகளை தூண்டும் வாசகங்கள் அடங்கிய பேனர்கள், கோஷங்கள் எழுப்பவோ அனுமதி கிடையாது. மேலும் விழாவுக்கு வரும் வாகனங்கள் சாலையோரங்கள் நிறுத்தி போக்குவரத்துக்கு இடையூறு ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடாது. விழாவுக்கு நடை பயணமாக வர அனுமதி கிடையாது. பசும்பொன் கிராமத்துக்குள் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட வழித் தடங்களில் மட்டுமே நடை பயணம் மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும். ஜோதி ஓட்டம் தேவர் நினைவிடத்தில் இருந்து 1 கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரத்துக்குள் நடத்திக்கொள்ளலாம். ராமநாதபுரம் மாவட்டத்தில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட வழித்தடங்களில் போதிய அளவு அரசு பஸ்கள் இயக்கப்படும். இந்த பஸ்களில் மேற்கூரை மற்றும் படிக்கட்டில் பயணம் செய்யக்கூடாது. பஸ்களில் அனைவரும் முறையாக பயணச்சீட்டு பெற்று வரவேண்டும். ஜோதி எடுப்பது தொடர்பான பொருட்கள், ஆயுதங்கள், பேனர்கள், கொடி மற்றும் இசைக்கருவிகள் உள்ளிட்ட எதனையும் பஸ்சில் எடுத்துச் செல்லக்கூடாது. பசும்பொன் கிராமத்தில் மட்டும் பிளக்ஸ் போர்டு போலீசாரின் அனுமதி பெற்ற பின்னர் வைத்துக்கொள்ள அனுமதிக்கப்படும். பிளக்ஸ் போர்டில் இடம் பெறும் வாசகங்கள் குறித்து கமுதி போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் முன் அனுமதி பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். விழாவுக்கு வருபவர்களின் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்ட அரசியல் கட்சிகளின் தலைவர்களுக்கு மட்டும் எழுத்து பூர்வமான கோரிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில் நேரம் ஒதுக்கீடு செய்யப்படும். இதற்கு ஏதுவாக விண்ணப்பத்தினை சம்பந்தப்பட்ட அரசியல் கட்சிகள் மாவட்ட கலெக்டர் அலுவலகத்தில் 22–ந்தேதிக்கு முன்பாக அளிக்க வேண்டும். அவ்வாறு வரும் அரசியல் கட்சி தலைவர்களும் சொந்த வாகனங்களில் மட்டுமே வர அனுமதிக்கப்படுவர். அவர்களுடன் அதிக பட்சமாக 3 வாகனங்கள் வரலாம். விழாவை அமைதியாக நடைபெற மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் மேற்கொள்ளும் நடவடிக்கைகளுக்கு அனைத்து தரப்பினரும் ஒத்துழைப்பு வழங்க வேண்டும் இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

Ilaiyaraaja completes Tharai Thappattai

Earlier, we had reported that Ilaiyaraaja’s 1000th film as a composer is director Bala’s Tharai Thappattai. This film has Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar and Sasikumar in the lead roles. We hear that Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja is done with the music of Tharai Thappattai. Reportedly, he has handed over the master copy to Bala. Sources reveal that the team is planning for a grand audio launch, which will have Ilaiyaraaja’s live performance. Tharai Thapattai is about Karagattam, a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu.

அ.தி.மு.க. பொதுச்செயலாளர் ஜெயலலிதா, கடந்த 30.10.2010 அன்று பசும்பொன் தேவர் குருபூஜை விழாவில் கலந்துகொண்டு அஞ்சலி செலுத்தினார். அப்போது அவரிடம் கோவை காமாட்சிபுரி ஆதீனம் சிவலிங்கசிவசாமிகள் மற்றும் பொதுமக்கள் தேவர்சிலைக்கு தங்க கவசம் அணிவிக்கவேண்டும் என்று கோரிக்கை விடுத்தனர்.

இந்த கோரிக்கையை ஏற்று பசும்பொன் முத்துராமலிங்கத் தேவர் சிலைக்கு கடந்த பிப்ரவரி மாதம் 9-ந்தேதி ஜெயலலிதா தங்க கவசம் அணிவித்தார். கடந்த ஆண்டு குருபூஜைக்குப்பின் இந்த தங்ககவசம் பாதுகாப்பாக எடுத்துச்செல்லப்பட்டு மதுரை அண்ணாநகரில் உள்ள பாங்க் ஆப் இந்தியாவின் பாதுகாப்பு பெட்டகத்தில் வைக்கப்பட்டது.

SJ SURYA’S CAMEO IN YATCHAN

SJ Surya will make a special appearance in director Vishnuvardhan’s next, Yatchan. In an interview to The Times of India, Surya said that Vishnuvardhan has done a cameo for his upcoming film, Isai. He appears in a crucial scene right before the interval. Surya further added that Vishnuvardhan has done him a favour by being a part of his film. While filming Yatchan, Vishnuvardhan had called Surya, and requested him to make a cameo in his movie. “Vishnuvardhan narrated the scene to me and I found it interesting,” Surya explained. His portions will be filmed in three days. Yatchan has Arya, Kreshna and Deepa Sannidhi in the lead. Yuvan Shankar Raja composes music, and the movie is produced by UTV Motion Pictures in association with Vishnuvardhan Films.

Vijay Sethupathi’s next in December?

Orange Mittai is an upcoming film directed by Biju Viswanath and produced by Vijay Sethupathi who has also doubled up as the dialogue writer in the film. The film stars Ashritha Shetty, Ramesh Thilak and many others with Vijay Sethupathi donning an important role of an aged man. The shooting was completed in Ambasamudhiram, Papanasam and other places in Tirunelveli. Orange Mittai has completed its shooting portions and is currently in post-production stage. Music for the film is being done by Justin Prabhakaran of Pannaiyaarum Padminiyum fame. Recording is being done now and the audio of the film is likely to be out by the end of December.

S.S. Rajendran: Dialogue delivery was his forte

Tamil cinema’s veteran actor Sedapatti Suryanarayana Thevar Rajendran, popularly known as SSR, who had worked with the former Chief Minister, M.G. Ramachandran, thespian Sivaji Ganesan, DMK leader M. Karunanidhi and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, died here on Friday. He was 86 and is survived by two wives, including actress C.R. Vijayakumari, and eight children. Born at Sedapatti in Madurai district in January 1928, SSR, like all his contemporaries, cut his teeth in acting on the stage as part of Boys Company and later in the theatre group run by T.K.S. Brothers. He was also a good singer; a few could match his Tamil pronunciation. He, however, kept to the minimum the theatrical elements that dominated the histrionics milieu of his time. From the early 1950s to 2008, he had acted in over 75 films. In his recent autobiography, Naan Vantha Paathai (The Path I Trod), he had said he could get into the famous TKS troupe after singing a song set to raga Karaharapriya to the satisfaction of T.K. Bhagavathi, the younger brother of T.K. Shanmugam. In fact, SSR entered the film world as a playback singer, in the music of G. Ramanathan, because he was considered too young for villain by Modern Theatres Sundaram. After penning his autobiography, SSR kept the manuscripts with him. “IAS officer Rajendran and artist Trotsky Marudhu persuaded him to publish it,” said poet Vennila, whose publishing house Agani has brought out the book recently. Closely associated with the Dravidian movement, SSR was an admirer of the DMK founder C.N. Annadurai. He was the first actor to be elected to the Assembly in the country, from Theni in 1962 on DMK ticket. He also represented the DMK in the Rajya Sabha during 1970-76 and was re-elected to the Assembly as an AIADMK candidate from Andipatti in 1980. Though he was a close friend of Mr. Karunanidhi, he fell out with him. In his autobiography, SSR has vividly recalled his war of words with the DMK president at an executive meeting of the party. After his expulsion from the DMK, he joined the AIADMK. Again, he entered the electoral fray from Periyakulam in the 1989 Assembly elections as a candidate of the AIADMK faction led by Ms. Jayalalithaa. But he could not win. Parasakthi, starring Sivaji Ganesan, gave him the much-needed break, though he had earlier acted in a few films such as Paithiyakaran and Aandal. In Parasakthi, he campaigned for the laudable objective of its scrip-writer Mr Karunanidhi to rehabilitate beggars. With a fine diction and facial expression, SSR excelled as a hero, and in many secondary roles. His role as ‘Muthazhgu’ in Sivagangai Seemai testified to his acting talent. He acted with Sivaji Ganesan in Patchai Vilakku, Manohara and Alayamani. In Poompuhar, for which the dialogues were penned by Mr. Karunanidhi, he played the role of Kovalan, the hero of the epic Silapathikaram. In Manimagudam, SSR worked with Mr. Karunanidhi, who penned the dialogues, and Ms. Jayalalithaa. He paired with MGR in Kanchi Thalaivan and Raja Thesinku.

It’s Time for More Talk, Less Action

It’s the busy season of Deepavali, but Vikram Prabhu is more excited about the two films he’s involved with currently. “I just got back from the dubbing of Vellakara Durai (VD) directed by Ezhil,” he tells. The film is a full-length comedy, and Vikram Prabhu can’t keep the grin off his face as he recounts, “It’s now more talk and less action for me in this film, since I’m trying my hand at comedy for the first time. So there is more of dialogue and not the usual stunts and action that I’ve been doing in the last few films.” In the film with Sridivya as heroine, Vikram Prabhu plays a happy-go-lucky guy. He says, “I can’t reveal more, but I can say that I’ve never done this kind of role so far.” The actor was initially apprehensive about tickling the funny bone, “I did wonder how I would pull off a comedy. But I trust Ezhil totally and just do what elicits 100 per cent satisfaction from him. I basically like comedy. Forward Bloc demands Aajad Hind Fauj memorial at Red Fort

The All India Forward Bloc on Tuesday demanded the Central government to construct a memorial for Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Aajad Hind Fauj at the Red Fort in Delhi. Speaking to reporters after a party convention in Jalpaiguri, Forward Bloc national general secretary Devvrat Biswas said the jawans of Aajad Hind Fauj gave up their lives for India’s freedom. “Many AHF officers were tried at a British court and sentenced to death. The sacrifice of these brave hearts should be honoured by erecting a memorial at the Red Fort premises,” he stressed. The party convention that was organised by the Uttar Banga Ananya Andolan Samnavya Committee at the Ravindra Bhavan also saw Forward Bloc leaders firming up to demand a circuit bench and an AIIMS-like facility in the district. They also decided to protest against the state government’s plan to include some areas of Jalpaiguri into Siliguri. The meeting was addressed by Forward Bloc leaders Govind Rai, Udyan Guwa and Paresh Adhikari among others. (HS)

Swamy’s plea to rename Madurai airport

Dr. Swamy said the renaming of the Madurai airport ahead of Muthuramalinga Thevar’s birthday (and death anniversary) on October 30 would set right the injustice meted out to the freedom fighter. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct the Civil Aviation Ministry to make an announcement that Madurai airport be known as Muthuramalinga Thevar International Airport. In a letter to the Prime Minister on Thursday, Dr. Swamy said the renaming of the Madurai airport ahead of Muthuramalinga Thevar’s birthday (and death anniversary) on October 30 would set right the injustice meted out to the freedom fighter. In 2001, he said, he had obtained permission of the then National Democratic Alliance government to rename the Madurai airport and to install a statute at the airport. “But persons like Mr. P. Chidambaram, former Finance Minister, and others prevented Mr. Praful Patel [then Civil Aviation Minister] from announcing it,” Dr. Swamy claimed. Muthuramalinga Thevar was elected as Member of Parliament three times and had also created history when he was elected to the Madras Legislative Assembly in 1937, defeating the Raja of Ramanad, a pro-British King. “Congress anti-Thevar” “I had struggled hard to install his statue in Parliament House in 2000. Bala reshoots Sasi Kumar’s sequences

Sasikumar is donning the lead role in a film which is being directed by Bala. There is going to be a re-shoot for the film. After Paradesi, Bala is directing a film which has Sasikumar and Varalakshmi in the lead roles. This film has been titled Tharai Thappattai. The heroes of Bala films will have a different kind of getups. This can be seen in Sethu, Pithamagan and Paradesi. Sasikumar was also not spared from this ordeal. He underwent lots of transformation as per director Bala’s instructions. After squeezing him for a month, Bala had viewed the film. His assistant directors had mentioned that the transformation did not suit Sasikumar at all. Bala who was upset called Sasikumar and told him to come back in his original appearance to reshoot the film again.

PIL seeks to lift prohibitory orders ahead of Thevar Gurupooja

A PIL, seeking to lift prohibitory orders imposed by the Ramanathapuram district authority ahead of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar 'Gurupooja' from October 25 to 31, has been filed before the Madras High court bench. Petitioner Manickavasagam also sought a direction to police to allow followeres of Muthuramalinga thevar hire vehicles for attending the Gurupooja, which falls on Oct 30. Justices V Dhanapalan and V M Velumani directed the Ramanathapuram District Collector and Superintendent of Police to file their counter and adjourned the matter to October 28. In 2012, six persons were killed in Thevar gurupooja violence. To prevent any untoward incidents during the Immanuel Sekar celebration District Collector K Nanthakumar on Sept 8 this year promulgated prohibitory orders for two months, based on recommendations of The SP N M Mylvahanan. Prohibitory orders were clamped from Oct 25 to 31 in ramanathapuram district when the gurupooja for Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar (a freedom fighter) was to be celebrated. As part of the prohibitory order,the collector has suspended entry of hired vehicles, tractors, two wheelers and auto-rickshaws carrying volunteers for the Thevar gurupooja event. Thevar gurupooja falls on Oct 30.

O. PANNEERSELVAM Quiet loyalist

OTTAKARA Thevar Panneerselvam, “OPS” to friends and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre, is simply a “Jaya-fearing man”. Some people call him “Mr Faithful” for his unflinching loyalty to party supremo Jayalalithaa. She rewarded him for this loyalty by making him Chief Minister for the second time following her conviction in the disproportionate wealth case. The first time was in September 2001, in largely similar circumstances. He headed the government for about five months, until Jayalalithaa took over as Chief Minister again. His humility before his leader has been criticised in political circles and outside, but the self-effacing “Amma” loyalist is impervious to jibes. He became a Minister in her government for the first time in 2001. As a member of her Cabinet or as Chief Minister, he practised utmost caution and refrained from doing anything that might irk the leader. “He is extremely careful not to create any misunderstanding or doubts in the minds of his leader and party cadre,” says a former AIADMK MP from Theni district who is now with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Panneerselvam’s home town, Periyakulam in Theni district, is calm after his recent elevation as Chief Minister. There are no signs of any celebration. Not even a handbill can be seen in the town congratulating him. “He has strongly warned cadre, friends and family members to desist from eulogising him,” says his childhood friend in Periyakulam. Panneerselvam’s family, which migrated from Srivilliputhur a century ago to escape famine, settled down to do agricultural and dairy farming in Periyakulam. Today its members are engaged in moneylending. Significantly, they are Piramalai Kallars, a predominant caste in the region and one to which many political heavyweights in the district belong. This background helped him when he had to compete against seasoned and senior party functionaries such as Sedapatti R. Muthiah and Cumbum Selventhiran, who later joined the DMK, and against leaders from rival parties such as the DMK’s L. Mookiah and the All India Forward Bloc’s N. Vallarasu and Santhanam. Theni district has been a bastion of the AIADMK since the time its founder, M.G. Ramachandran, chose to contest from Andipatti constituency from his hospital bed in the United States in 1984. Jayalalithaa was elected twice from here—in 2002, when she sought the people’s mandate after she stepped down as Chief Minister following the Supreme Court verdict, and again in 2006. Panneerselvam won twice from Periyakulam, while the nearby Bodinayakanur elected Jayalalithaa in 1989 and Panneerselvam in 2011. When the party split after MGR’s demise, he initially chose to stay with the faction led by Janaki Ramachandran, MGR’s widow. The other faction was led by Jayalalithaa. But later, when Jayalalithaa became the leader of the unified AIADMK, he had no qualms about accepting her as his leader and submitting himself as a foot soldier.
