CM reviews security

CHENNAI:� Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday reviewed the security arrangements being made for the ‘Thevar Guru Pooja’ to be observed on October 30 at Pasumpon village in Ramanathapuram district to mark the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar.

Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi, Home Secretary Rameshram Mishra, Director General of Police K Ramanujam, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) S George and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Pon Manickavel took part in the meeting.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of the police firing at Paramakudi recently during the Guru Pooja of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran.

Already, the Home Secretary has convened a meeting of all top officials on the security arrangements to be made for the Thevar Guru Pooja.
