Steps for Thevar Jayanthi reviewed

District Collector U. Sagayam has appealed to the volunteers participating in the Thevar Jayanthi to follow the instructions on the routes to be taken by the different outfits and among others which would ensure the events passed off peacefully on October 30.

Bursting crackers during the procession is banned. The rally followed by public meetings on the occasion should be wound up by 10 p.m.

All the four-wheelers participating in the events would be permitted only when the roof-top carriers are removed. The volunteers should stop their vehicles at check-posts while entering the city. The timings specified for each group shall be strictly adhered to by the leaders. Any let up in it should be avoided. All sensitive locations have been identified and it would be given adequate strength, the police officers told the meeting.

No padayatra

While the officials have made it clear that permission would not be given to any outfit to take out a padayatra from the city to Pasumpon village, vehicles too would have to follow the routes earmarked by the authorities. From Madurai, they shall take Silaiman, Manamadurai, Parthibanoor, Abiramam. In the return direction, they may take Kamudhi, Kannarpatti junction, Keezhamaramathupatti, Mandapa salai, Aruppukottai, Kariapatti, Ring Road and enter city.

It had been decided to deploy more number of police in colonies where adi-dravidars resided. Similarly, a kind of visible police presence at all vantage locations would instil confidence among the common man.

Recovery vehicles and fire tenders would be positioned throughout the event as a precautionary measure.
