Collectors, SPs asked to ensure smooth 'Thevar Jayanthi'

Madurai, Oct 23 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Home Secretary, Ramesh Ram Mishra, today instructed District Collectors and Superintendents of Police from nine districts to take adequate steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the forthcoming 104th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter and Thevar community leader, Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. The Home Secretary stressed at a meeting that during the 'Thevar Jayanthi,' to be held from Oct 27 to 30, those who go in a convoy of vehicles and take out processions should not raise slogans or carry placards containing writings that hurt the feelings of any person, a press release said. Open top vehicles would not be allowed, and vehicles fitted with speakers have also been prohibited. DGP K Ramanujam said 6,000 policemen had been deployed on security duty for the event. Twenty SPs would oversee the security operations at various points, he said, adding IGs would supervise the entire bandobust arrangement. PTI SSN ARP
